Professor Alen Soldo and his students visited fishing port Brižine. During this field trip students had opportunity to see fishing boats located in the port Brižine and observe daily tasks of the workers on fishing boats. Professor Soldo presented a special gift to the manager of the fishing cooperative consisting of two books authored by Professor Soldo.
The book “Fishing boat and port: exploitation technology” contains professional and scientific, as well as practical knowledge and solutions to the issues of exploiting fishing boats and fishing ports, using fishing vessels and ports and their systems according to their purpose. Book has numerous illustrations that provide clearer and more vivid presentation of various types of fishing boats, their deck-fishing equipment and specific objects in fishing port serving needs of the fishing fleet and their cargo. There was a lack of specialized literature on this issue in region. This book fills that gap even though it does not exhaust all knowledge of the subject. The authors, Perica Cetinić and Alen Soldo, are university professors teaching at the University study center for sea studies at the University of Split, specifically in the field of fisheries and maritime studies. They are authoritative experts whose knowledge and experience are invaluable.
The book “Types of recreational fishing” presents around 200 marine organisms, mostly fish. All organisms are described exclusively with original photographs taken throughout the Adriatic. Each species is presented with its Croatian and Latin name,. The most commonly used names in other languages are also provided. A description is given for each fish species, accompanying the photograph to facilitate easy identification. This book is designed to assist a wider audience in identifying species that can be caught during fishing, not only in recreational fishing but also in commercial fishing, considering that the majority of species not listed in this book are rarely caught in practice.
We hope that visit of the students and their professor has opened the door for future collaboration.
