Fishery Cooperative FRIŠKA RIBA was founded in February 2007 on the initiative of professional fishermen from Split and its surrounding areas (Vinišće, Trogir, Kaštela, Vranjic, Mali rat, Dugi Rat, Sumpetar and Omiš), followed by the fishermen from the island of Hvar, Brač, Dubrovnik, Gradac joining the Cooperative, too… Today, the cooperative gathers 20 professional fishermen who use their boats and fishing tools to provide the entire range of products – from small pelagic fish, shellfish to all types of demersal/white fish.

Within the framework of its activity, the Cooperative performs the following:

  • purchase and sale of fish,
  • commercial mediation on the domestic and foreign markets,
  • procurement of equipment and tools,
  • accounting and bookkeeping,
  • provision of information on legal and other changes related to the fishing sector,
  • provision of consulting services and professional assistance during tender application
  • protection and promotion of its members' interests
  • since 2012, the Cooperative has significantly expanded its range of activities by adopting the new Cooperative Rules

The Cooperative’s goal is to ensure its own infrastructure with a fish processing plant in the near future, enabling the disposal of market surpluses and increasing the profitability of fishermen thanks to the added value of fishery products.

 

The Cooperative is entered in the register of the Commercial Court’ in Split under Reg. No./Cro. MBS: 060228103, and the Cooperative Rules (adopted at the Cooperative’s General Assembly on March 23, 2012) were entered as the founding act.

In 2014, a 5-year concession contract was signed with the Port Authority of Split on the provision of water and electricity services in the Brižine Fishing Port, which was renovated thanks to the EU funds and opened in June 2021.

In cooperation with the Institute for Oceanography and Fisheries, and the Public Institution RERA SD for coordination and development of Split Dalmatia County, we have carrried out activities in Interreg projects (ML-REPAIR, ITACA).

In 2020 we signed the Partnership Agreement for the Project under measure I.3 “Partnerships between scientists and fishermen” with the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Shipbuilding from Zagreb.

In February 2020, Friška Riba Fishery Cooperative received a Decision on the recognition of Friška Riba Fishery Cooperative as a “Fish Producer Organization” in the territory of the Republic of Croatia for the total quantities of fishery products landed and sold by its members.
